Projects

We are well aware of the disadvantages of being dependent on funding from outside sources and for that reason we are doing all we can to set up various income generating projects on site to ensure that in case of any eventualities, we can be able to operate within the income locally raised.  Our UK team is working hard towards our goal to become self funding.  Although the projects so far created are still in infantry stage, we hope to be successful in the near future especially when we overcome the marketing challenge as at the moment we’re lacking skilled marketers for our products.

So far, these are some of the projects up and running;

Poultry

poultryWe have a four roomed building in which we are able to rear up to 500 chickens in each room.  We rear chickens for both meat and eggs. We also rear free range turkeys. It costs about £300 to purchase 500 chicks, vaccines and feeds for 8 weeks and if all goes well, we start selling them from the 8th week.  For £100 we can purchase 150 chicks, vaccines and feeds and realise a profit of about £80.

Mushrooms

We grow organic oyster mushrooms both for food and for sale. £50 can enable us to plant 60 gardens of mushrooms.

Bakery

We have set up a bakery which has not been fully operational due to lack of electricity.  We have been producing doughnuts only but as Electricity was recently installed, we are working on expanding the bread oven to enable us start bread and cakes production.

Tailoring

We only have 1 sowing machine at the moment and it is being used to train the children and widows. We need to have a least 3 sowing machines as the number of widows is increasing.  When funds become available, we will purchase more sowing machines to facilitate more training and productions of ladies crafts hand bags etc.  Manual sowing machines costs about £40 each in Uganda.   Donations of any amount would be much appreciated as more than one person can contribute towards purchase of a sowing machine.

Bridal project “Brides Together”

The UK team has collected a few bridal wear to be hired out to enable us raise funds. Once we have enough bridal wear, we will produce a catalogue. We still need more bridal items and request anyone with bridal wear for men and women, boys and girls to donate them to us. We will send some of them to Uganda to enable us start up the “Brides Together” project in Jinja for the same purpose. We are also looking into opening a charity shop here in the UK where we could be able to sale our various items in order to raise funds to support vulnerable orphans and widows. If you have any bridal item you might wish to donate to us, please e-mail Yvonne at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Thank you.

Future projects

The Catering project

Its cultural practice for Ugandans to serve food at all functions and there is a growing demand for caterers.  We are looking for funds to enable us start up a catering project from which we can generate funds to enable us purchase material required for training widows. In order for us to purchase catering equipment, cutlery, etc, we would require about £400 to get started.

Carpentry

Carpentry is one of the most useful skills for boys especially those who will not be able to go much further education wise.  When funds become available, we would like to start up a carpentry workshop project which will provide more training skills for the children (especially boys) and it will be a good source of income for the home as there are very few carpentry workshops in Jinja and there is demand for wood works. Once again, your financial support will be much appreciated.

Grain Milling Project

We are also looking to raise £700 to enable us purchase a milling motor to enable us offer milling services in the local people as most people in Uganda eat maize meal posho, millet posho, cassava posho etc.  This quite is good project to run and we would be very grateful for your contributions.

It is our desire to become self funding and we are creating various mini projects to enable us equip our beneficiaries with saleable skill as well as raise funds locally.  Every little helps and great things are made out of small things.  If you would like to get involved in making a difference in orphan’s and widow’s lives, here is a list of some of our requirements and projects that you can fund in order to help.
