Fundraising Concert

A fundraising concert was recently held at St John's Church in Egham for Abba Father's House. The review below is from Julia Food who had arranged the event and brought together all the people who offered their talents and time!

afhconcert.jpg God speaks when you least expect it. One Saturday evening in April, I walked into Egham to meet Dave for supper at Bar 163. He had been attending a singers’ master class which, I discovered, hadn’t quite finished when I arrived. I therefore sat through the last 10 minutes (I must admit) with little enthusiasm!

Over supper we discussed the recent car boot sale, which had raised a considerable amount of money, but which had also exhausted Juliet and Maggie who had stood in the hot sun for several hours. With musical performance very much in mind, I wondered about the possibility of using Dave’s (now little used) singing voice to raise funds. Dave laughed but agreed to sing if I wanted to organize something. And that was that. Over the next few months God’s plan became reality. It wasn’t my project it was God’s, which is probably why I wasn’t unduly concerned about it! The details all followed: others agreed to sing, Ross at the South African wine shop agreed to supply wine on a sale or return basis and lend us all the glasses for free, St John’s lent us their lovely building with no charge, people stepped forward to help and I hit the shops and the kitchen – the one bit of the project I could do myself!! At each stage I felt that I ‘knew’ what to do; whether it be the ticket or program design or the quantities of food. As the day neared it did occur to me to wonder how all the different bits of planning were going to come together, but I told God very firmly that as this was His doing, I trusted Him that all would be well. And it was. I had hoped we would raise over £1000 and not only did we triple this figure, many helpers offered their services for ‘next time’. So If God says …
